Hi all, Today I created an account I'm Robert 27 year old from the Netherlands. Nice to meet you guys. But I'm here because I need some help, I put together a new pc today: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC (the friend i build it for requested onboard wifi) MSI GeForce 1660 Super Ventus Curcial Ballistix DDR4 2x8GB 3600 Crucial P1 500 GB M.2 But after a couple of startups i noticed that the boots weren't really stable, sometimes i barely got it too boot, so i dialed back the frequency of the ram since the mobo didnt support 3600Mhz but 3466Mhz. (a mistake in picking the mobo). After this I was able to effortlesly install windows 10 and the drivers. After the mandatory reboot I noticed that it didn't boot at all. assuming my luck i went and reseated the GPU, Ram and then the CPU, then i got in some trouble: When I removed the CPU-Heatsink the CPU came out of the socket with it.(does that happen more often ? i'm pretty sure i locked it in place the proper way) luckily I was careful enough not to send it flying but it did get some thermal paste on a couple of the connecting pins. I carefully cleaned it off with a toothpick placed it back in the socket cleaned the heatsink(which had an grey layer of oxidation anyone encountered this before ?) and the cpu heatspreader. The system was put back together with some Arctic-MX4 and I hoped for the best. The system booted again and i was quickly working on installing the nesse.... PLONG New audio device found. The thing is that was not possible there was no audiojack plugged in any of the connectors only a IBM Model M in the PS2 connector and a Logitech G700S in an USB. and the windows sounds keeps on playing unplugged, plugged, unplugged, plugged. So thinking the pins i hit with the thermal paste had something to do with the sound i got the CPU out of the socket again (this time not attached to the heatsink) and tried to clean of more but there almost nothing to remove anymore. popped it back in boot the pc and PLONG. Windows is driving me crazy again with the annoying sounds. Does anyone have any clue whats going on? I would love to hear it if you have any advice. Hope I didn't break any forum rules

The bios I haven't handled are actually the newest versions available on the manufacturer's website.

Usually you'd refresh the BIOS after setting up a PC, which might solve some issues.

Receiving paste on CPU pins isn't likely to cause problems. Thermal paste isn't very conductive, so in extreme cases the pins might not connect properly with the socket. PGA sockets rely on pressure to hold the CPU in place. The paste between heatsink and CPU can stick like glue, which might affect grip if you try to pull it up. While no immediate damage is expected, repeated pulling could reduce friction over time, possibly loosening the connection. Try removing the cooler while it's warm—run a benchmark or game briefly before shutting down, then gently wiggle the cooler to loosen it. Clean the paste with isopropyl alcohol or similar solvent, then check the sound card outputs visually for shorts. Test by plugging in and unplugging jacks, and consider disabling auto-detection in drivers. For RAM, ensure it operates at the correct voltage; adjusting to 1.36V or higher may help if you're targeting higher frequencies. If audio issues persist without replacing the board, consider swapping with a separate card or using PCIe X1 slots and USB sound cards.

I was worried the thermal paste could have insulated the pins, but the squeezing motion should actually help. I used a suitable solvent to clean the CPU—don’t worry, I didn’t mention that—I also tried connecting my headphones to the audio jack that was problematic, and it didn’t work. For the RAM, I used the XMP profile; would that automatically adjust the voltage? Yes, for the soundcard (onboard sound chip), that makes sense. Let me quickly check the BIOS and update if needed, and I’ll also reinstall the sound drivers just to be sure.

Ensure the front panel audio connector is placed correctly and all pins are included. Incorrect placement might lead to problems. Verify your headphone connector type—does it support separate microphone and audio jacks, or is it a mixed stereo setup? This can trigger auto-detection issues. You should be able to override auto-detection and set each jack manually. Sometimes the audio jacks remain silent because Windows defaults to using built-in video card audio, which may not work with your monitor. Right-click the speaker icon, select playback devices, and choose your integrated audio source (or analog if digital outputs are on). Restart the app or browser tab if needed so it reconfigures the default output and sends sound through the correct device.

I’m not relying on the headers at all; I’m using the motherboard box as a test bench. Sure, it’s four pins, but this setup also functions in my own system—though I doubt it’s always reliable. I understand everything, did all these steps, and thank you for your assistance. Please assume I have some understanding.
