No, not all AM4 processors are compatible. And AM4 technology isn't necessarily future-proof as it depends on the specific model and advancements.

this refers to the different versions and their compatibility with various devices. b350 can run up to zen 2 using a beta BIOS (including zen + APU or 3000 APU). b450 depends on the board and will support zen 3 with a BIOS update (works with zen and zen + APU). b550 only supports zen 2 now, but will get zen 3 with a BIOS update (doesn’t support current Gen APU). x570 matches b350, and x470 is the same as b450. This marks the final year for AM4, with Zen 4 coming on AM5. Edit. Clarification on APU differences provided. Edited July 28, 2020 by TofuHaroto

certain a320 models can run Zen 2 using a beta BIOS, but they won't be compatible with the next Zen 3 release. most a320 boards come with Zen 2 support by default, though it's worth noting that Zen 2 support is not guaranteed for the latest Zen 3 version.

It depends on what you need. If you're just starting out, a basic motherboard with solid performance should work well. For more advanced tasks or future upgrades, consider something with better features.

No, I'm not doing a sort by lowest price. I wouldn't even consider it for the cheapest CPU.

It's one of the top A320 models. What systems are you using and what is your budget? The S2H performs well overall. Edited July 28, 2020 by TofuHaroto

Which processor? Upgrading for an additional £30 gives you the pro4, likely sufficient for the 4600/4700.
