Socket AM3 friend arrived with his vintage gaming setup. He attempted to reapply thermal paste, but the system won't boot. He brought it over, and despite his efforts, the 5-dot pattern remains, spreading unevenly. It appears the CPU is developing a hotspot on the die, possibly causing damage. The pump seems still active, though it's an older model he donated from one of my previous builds. Someone needs to share some thoughts or solutions.

It indicates the stress distribution isn't concentrated in one area. Consider switching to a different cooler and avoid over-tightening the screws. A looser fit should suffice.

I attempted to reapply and managed to secure everything tightly this time, but I couldn’t post because I don’t have a backup cooler. I noticed the water hoses were off the road—you could feel the pump working and hear it.

Make sure the pressure is spread out evenly and just apply a light "Nice-N-Snug". Avoid fully tightening one side first; instead, gradually tighten the opposite side. This prevents uneven resistance and keeps the item balanced. Work in a sequence starting with a screw, then thread it in. You'll notice slight resistance at each step, moving to the opposite side next. Continue this pattern until everything is securely fastened.
