Always forced to BIOS on ASUS ROG STRIX board
I own a brand new ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming motherboard. I've expanded my system from mini-ITX to ATX without yet swapping out the processor or graphics card. My setup includes an M.2 NVMe drive for Windows, a separate SSD for the library, and another for backup storage. I'm running a Ryzen 7 3700X with an RTX 2080 Ti and 32GB of RAM.
The issue started right away after startup. Each time I power on the PC, after the initial POST and splash screen, I see the message: "Thing is, mine is not and never has been a 'RAID configuration'." Online searches turned up many discussions about this error, but all advice tried so far has failed.
If I exit BIOS without saving or force boot to my M.2 drive, Windows launches normally and the computer functions as expected. Here’s what I’ve attempted:
- Performed a clean Windows install in UEFI with only the M.2 connected.
- Disconnected all other drives.
- Updated BIOS to version v.1212.
- Replaced the CMOS battery (seems to have resolved it for some users).
- Tweaked BIOS settings according to various suggestions.
- Removed and reinserted the graphics card.
- Swapped memory modules.
- Attempted to resolve the problem by disabling the BIOS error prompt (F1) before booting.
Despite these efforts, nothing has fixed the problem. I’m also experiencing difficulties connecting my Ethernet cable—often it takes 3–4 minutes for the machine to detect the cable, even though it’s plugged in.
I’m hoping to find a permanent solution rather than just a temporary fix.
I noticed a possibility that my Windows installation might not be using Disk 0. For fun, I attempted to relocate my NVMe drive to another M.2 slot on the motherboard and shifted the other drive to various SATA ports, yet the drive order remained unchanged. I wasn't sure if drive numbers really matter much as long as the BIOS recognizes Disk 2 as the boot device.
