Not really about breaking news, but getting excited about the 7000-series Threadripper release we haven’t heard much about on the motherboard side. We’ve learned that the ASUS TRX50-SAGE was the first to launch, but after checking a few suppliers, we discovered two options: Gigabyte’s TRX50 AERO-D Creator -2.5Gb with Intel NIC and 10Gb Marvell/aQuantia NIC, and Asrock’s TRX50 WS -2.5Gb with Realtek NIC plus 10Gb Marvell/aQuantia NIC. The only board mentioning USB4 support stands out. The fans on the Asrock model are impressive—really impressive! I couldn’t find any info from EVGA or MSI either. It’s surprising we haven’t seen more gaming-focused boards like ROG or Aorus. Maybe more will appear soon?
The 7000-series Threadripper isn't particularly strong for gaming, which makes the "no gaming-focused boards" comment quite understandable... and I share the view on the "insane VRM fans" being overblown.
For accurate performance, the 7000-series Threadripper suits gaming well enough; though it won’t be the top choice for it. In terms of motherboards, SuperMicro offers the H13SRA-TF along with other models discussed. https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/m.../h13sra-tf I’m opting for the Asus board myself, which lists USB4 via a header only. I’ve contacted Asus to inquire about available expansion options using that header. The absence of USB4/Thunderbolt made the ASRock option unfeasible for me.
