Hey! I just got an older HP prebuilt and bought it for a friend. I was thinking about swapping the GPU and CPU from a Ryzen 5 1400 to a Ryzen 5 3600x, but it seems like the BIOS hasn’t been updated since 2018. I’m wondering if it’s possible to install a third-party BIOS update that could let me upgrade to the Ryzen 3000 series. And if so, how would I do it? It’s the HP Pavilion Power Desktop model 580-101, with the HP 8399 SSI motherboard.

HP manufactures its own unique motherboards known for firmware restrictions that limit compatibility to specific products. It’s improbable to locate a reliable third-party BIOS for them.

BIOS adjustments are usually avoided. Standard BIOS upgrades are typically done using external tools such as USB drives built into the BIOS.
