All my games freeze for 1-3 seconds every 5-10 minutes
I've been experiencing frequent game freezes in Halo Infinite, ranging from 1 to 3 seconds, sometimes multiple times per match. Switching to Stardew Valley didn't improve the issue, though it's much easier on computers. Minor freezes were observed, less severe than those in Halo but still bothersome. My GPU temperatures are between 60-70 for Halo and 40 for Stardew Valley. I've increased fan speed via MSI Afterburner and optimized my case, which has resolved the overheating concerns. The issue might be related to hardware limitations or software strain, but I'm unsure. Anyone else have encountered similar problems?
My son was also facing similar "hang" problems... or even complete crashes during various games. This happened after we upgraded to a Ryzen 5600 CPU, Asus B550 motherboard, 32 GB RAM, and a fresh Windows 10 installation. After extensive research, we set up a new local user account on his PC. Once logged in with that account and started the games, the issues disappeared. It seems there was corruption with his Microsoft account—logging into that account and playing the games caused random, recurring hangs or crashes. Using the new user account worked without problems. This was identified after repeatedly wiping and reinstalling Windows, reinstalling video drivers cleanly, etc. Now we're looking for a way to reset or remove his actual Microsoft account so he doesn’t lose his game purchases and other records.
Try using the new user account method—it’s simple to test. Create the account, then for instance with Steam install and log in, see if the problems vanish.
Let us know if this helps. Good luck!
What occurs during a 5-10 minute schedule?
Maybe an email is sent or received.
Perhaps the graphics driver is scanning for updates?
Could be malware?
Check the task manager after the event to identify what was running at that time.
Thank you for the guidance! I realized the freezing and stuttering were caused by Steam's in-game overlay, which surprised me. I hadn't considered creating a new user account to address this issue, so I'll remember that for future reference!
It turns out Steam's in-game overlay was causing issues, and after disabling it, the problems disappeared. I still appreciate you reminding me to scan for malware; I ran a deep antivirus scan for the first time in weeks and it detected something. Even though removing it didn't fully solve the issue, I'm relieved we got rid of it. Thanks!
