I recently purchased an Alienware Aurora R7, which includes:
Intel® Core™ i5K-8600K (6-Core, 9MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.4GHz across all cores)
Radeon 580 RX 8GB
1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s
850W EPA Bronze Liquid Cooled PSU
16GB DDR4 at 2666MHz Dual Channel
I’m unfamiliar with overclocking, but I acquired this model to attempt CPU overclocking on my first CPU. Nonetheless, I’m quite puzzled.
Without any overclocking, both CPU-Z and Task Manager indicate the core speed is at 4.8GHz, which is significantly higher than the original 3.6GHz. Why isn’t it lower? Also, when I activate OC Stage 1 (4.4GHz) or OC Stage 2 (4.6GHz) in the Alienware Control Center, my core speed drops to match the selected stage’s setting. Essentially, using the software to overclock seems to reduce performance. If I choose OC Stage 1, the speed falls from 4.8GHz to 4.4GHz. What’s happening?
Could my CPU have already been overclocked at 4.8GHz? Are these two pre-set OC stages ineffective? By the way, my temperatures remain good—under 40°C while idle and staying below 70°C during gaming.

It's likely the CPU was adjusted beyond its original speed via the BIOS. 99% of CPU overclocking is handled through the BIOS.

It's likely the CPU was pre-overclocked via the BIOS. Most CPU overclocking is handled through the BIOS, which accounts for about 99%. The PC info lists the CPU as "Intel® Core™ i5K-8600K (6-Core, 9MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.4GHz across all cores)." This suggests it may already be running at 4.4 GHz. However, my BIOS shows a CPU ratio of 48. I'm still puzzled since I didn't expect the CPU to be overclocked directly from Dell.

The CPU ratio of 48 in the BIOS indicates a speed of 4.8GHz.
