Alan Wake 2 experiences occasional stuttering at 6700 xt.
I know Alan Wake 2 can be demanding, but it seems many others are facing similar problems. Watching the clip shows the game freezing right away when I move the camera and consistently drops below 30 frames per second with minor fluctuations. It runs at low resolutions in ultra performance mode, but no matter the adjustments I make, stuttering persists. I’m puzzled about why this happens. I can play a stable 30fps at medium settings in 1440p, but a smooth 60fps experience would be ideal. My graphics card and drivers are current. Check the benchmark here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/66003843
I don't really catch the stutters in your video possibly due to compression and YouTube's limit on frame rate, but it seems unusual since the game runs smoothly on a 6700XT with RT enabled or disabled. It might be a driver problem, or it could relate to your CPU. I can see the GPU usage on your end when you switch, but not in this clip—though he has a powerful CPU. Which CPU do you have? What are your other specifications?
Thanks for the update. It seems my email didn't send the alert as expected. My benchmark data shows a typical build with a PC part selection, except for the 5600x3D CPU I bought on sale. I noticed videos using that CPU didn't show the same GPU performance issues, which makes me wonder if the CPU is the issue. I also found a bent pin on the CPU that needed correction before installation, which could be a problem. I'm still confused about why lowering the resolution doesn't help with frame rate. Alan Wake 2 seemed smoother at medium textures compared to low settings, which is confusing.
It's difficult to determine without extensive testing. The game runs smoothly even on the least recommended hardware, so if yours does then you should investigate what might be causing the problem. Begin by removing any software that could interfere, such as bloatware or potential malware. A clean Windows installation with a reset CMOS and updated BIOS is recommended, leaving only drivers and the game installed, without any accounts. If the issue persists, examine the hardware components.
Hey, did you solve the problem already? It seems like the 5800X3D might be the cause. I'm running a 6900 XTLC with 32GB RAM on a high-end SSD, using Windows 10 x64. I'm having trouble finding any details about this issue, but I noticed both of us are using a zen3 X3D CPU, so it could be related.
I know for sure it’s not the CPU. I changed it to a 5600x but the problem persisted. Iv followed all the advice given, including reinstalling Windows and changing the RAM. Does the game also slow down more when using low textures compared to medium? I’m really stuck and running out of options. I’ll switch to a different SSD if it helps, but if not, maybe trying another card—perhaps an Nvidia one? It’s frustrating because I built this PC for one of these games.
The game could have issues with RDNA2 GPUs. It often freezes during specific sections of Saga's narrative, especially in Watery and the Nursing Home area.
