I acquired an old laptop from a coworker (he wanted to get rid of it) and I’m checking if it overheats. No matter what I try, the programs keep restarting and it takes a long time to work again. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Check the temperature visually or avoid handling the old laptop.

When you're 90 years old, you wouldn't want someone pushing you around a field; you'd likely crash too. I monitor CPU and GPU temperatures using addgadgets, but there are many other tools you can try.

It’s working well with XP. It needs a Pentium 3 at 800MHz and 128MB RAM. I’ll update the BIOS using AIDA, adding 256MB, to make sure it works. This setup is much better than my older 97 model with MMX and 64MB RAM, which took six hours to install.
