Hey everyone, I've been running a Core i5 3330 for about eight years now. A Ryzen 5 2600 is coming soon, probably in a week or so. I read some advice suggesting I only update my BIOS to the latest version that includes a specific AGESA release. That version was the last one with support for Zen+ before the next one. I think they did that because older boards were getting removed to free space for newer features like Zen2 and PCIe 4.0. I wonder if those changes actually helped performance or stability. My board is the Gigabyte B450 DS3H Rev 3.0. I was planning to get an Asrock B450 Pro 4 F, but I couldn’t find it locally. A few days after buying the Gigabyte model, I noticed some people getting batches of the Asrock boards, which made me second-guess my decision.
The B450 chipset was created for Ryzen 2000 series chips. It's safe to review the BIOS updates and adjust them according to the manual as required. This will enhance memory support, system stability, and performance. You won't miss out on your investment—either board will work well if it fits your build requirements.
