Afterburner issue
Afterburner issue
Cheers 🍻
That never happened to me until today.
GPU: Gigabyte GT 710
OS: Windows 10 PRO
I installed the MSI afterburner along with Kombustor (the latest version from MSI).
My GPU had the newest driver available here:
https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe...6778/en-us
I attempted an overclock, but it caused headaches. I set the fan speed to maximum (100% every time) and checked the "unlock voltage and voltage monitor" settings in the options—though it was locked, I still couldn’t access the voltage data.
Then I opened Kombustor to run a stress test and monitor temperatures. The card maintained around 60°C under full load.
I adjusted both core clock and memory clock by +15 simultaneously and rerun Kombustor. It remained stable at +180Core clock and +150 memory clock, with no artifacts. The peak temperature reached 73–75°C.
After saving the profile, I checked "Windows startup" settings. In CSGO, there were improvements: +35 FPS, GTA V +15 FPS.
But suddenly, my FPS dropped to stock levels (15–20) in every game.
I tried checking and deleting the MSI afterburner profile, reverting all changes, and using tools like "Display driver uninstaller" and "Wise registry cleaner" to clean up any associated drivers and files in safe mode.
After a normal boot and reinstalling the driver, I still saw 15–20 FPS, but it was confusing. The MSI settings were reverted and deleted—how could that be possible without the software installed? The GPU seemed to return to normal.
This was an unexpected issue. I’ve never experienced such a problem with any graphics card before, and I’ve done many overclock attempts in the past.
What happened and how can I fix this?
Consider restarting the system.
Geforce drivers may attempt to increase performance if an overclocking issue arises.
To return to standard clock speeds, simply power off and then restart the computer.
