I enhanced my graphics card from R9 390 to 7900 XTX and increased the power supply from 650W to 850W recently. Initially, everything functioned well, allowing hours of gaming without issues. Now, the system frequently crashes during gameplay, displaying a black screen within about a minute of loading. It remains stable otherwise. When it fails, my main display turns black while the second monitor shows a solid green color. Audio stops completely with Bluetooth headphones but buzzes with wired speakers. All fans, GPU lights, and other components operate normally. I can only restore the system by performing a hard reboot. I've installed all drivers, updated games and the operating system, and verified every internal connection—PSU cables, PCIe slots, RAM are correctly placed. The GPU was purchased new from a major retailer. I recognize this setup is quite unbalanced, and the remaining parts will be upgraded soon. Appreciate your assistance ahead! Spec CPU: Intel i5-4690K Motherboard: Asus Z-97K GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (MSI Gaming Trio Classic) PSU: Corsair RM850x RAM: 16GB DDR3 (4 x 4GB) OS: Windows 10
No, I didn't remove the old graphic drivers prior to installing the new GPU.
I hadn't done it before, so I selected the option to delete old drivers while updating them from AMD's site.
What temperatures are being recorded? If they seem high, I recommend removing all graphics drivers via DDU and then restoring them from AMD's site.
It was definitely a heating problem! My CPU temperatures rapidly reached 100°C, which is concerning since it lasted longer before failing. I attempted to clean out my stock cooler and replace the thermal paste, which helped somewhat—it prevented a crash but still climbed to 100°C eventually. Eventually, I upgraded to a new cooler (Pure Rock 2) and now it operates comfortably around 40°C even under heavy load. Additionally, I found a very good local computer shop. Thanks for your support!
