After updating the Nvidia drivers, the PC displays black screens.
I own a 4090 founders edition, an Asus B650 motherboard, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, 32GB DDR5 Corsair Vengeance 6000 RAM, and a Corsair RMX 1000 PSU. After updating my graphics card, the screen would go black, but I couldn't fix it by rolling drivers or reinstalling. When I tried to resolve the issue, the login screen appeared briefly before the screen turned off again, though the PC remained powered on with fans spinning and all lights functioning. I returned my card to Nvidia twice, then purchased a 5080 model which also didn't solve the problem. I've replaced the RAM, power supply, motherboard, and various GPUs, but the issue persists. I've used DDU to remove drivers, performed a fresh install, yet it didn't help. I've reset the CMOS and BIOS, updated the BIOS, and even reinstalled Windows, but I'm unsure what to do next. The problem seems persistent despite multiple attempts.
I understand it may seem strange, but drivers around version 550 are common. I use 555.97 on my laptop with a 4070 and everything functions perfectly. (It's a custom Asus driver, yet still based on Nvidia "555" support) Updated April 25, 2025 by Mark Kaine with the accurate driver version.
Hey there! Welcome to the forums. Remember that classic line: "Doctor! It hurts when I [do action]"? Well, it sounds like you're dealing with some NV drivers that are a bit chaotic. MK's suggestion makes sense—using an older driver version could help. You mentioned using the same cable and display for all three GPUs, right? Could be related to the chipset drivers. Have you tried a fresh install or at least a Linux LiveUSB?
I've attempted DP 1.4 and checked three cables plus three HDMI 2.1 devices, but nothing worked. A recent update for Asus motherboards is coming, which I plan to test. However, when reviewing the BIOS updates, my current version supports only 4090 and 50-series cards. I've also tried various older drivers without success. It's odd that the 7900xt functions smoothly while others don't.
