After replacing the motherboard, the NVME SSD becomes inaccessible.
I'm facing a problem with my NVME SSD. After upgrading my motherboard and CPU, I moved from a SATA SSD to an NVME SSD. Since then, the NVME drive appears normal in BIOS and Windows Device Manager; however, Device Manager shows it wasn't migrated, and Disk Management says the disk is unallocated but fails initialization due to CRC errors. Sometimes I can't even start it. I've tried updating drivers, cleaning the drive with Diskpart (running as admin), and converting GPT/MBR via Diskpart (also as admin). I removed the drive, reinstalled it on an old motherboard, and it worked. My BIOS and Windows are both up to date. Both PCs used the same boot SSD, so OS differences shouldn't be the issue. The drive is still relatively new—around 1200-1300 hours according to hwinfo64—and has warranty coverage. I'm hesitant to discard it yet because I don’t want to give it away without trying again. I’m worried about losing data even if it’s intact, and I’d appreciate any advice. P.S. The timestamps in the logs refer to when the drive was first installed on the old motherboard, not when I tested it later.
Creating a Live Linux USB and booting it reveals the drive, allowing initialization and use. If it functions in Linux, the issue likely lies with the Windows configuration. Otherwise, you can use gparted to reformat it to NTFS from there and test in Windows.
Use the Samsung Magician for your Samsung NVMe drives to perform a full erase. If you shared your specific NVMe model, I could direct you to the appropriate tools. It seems you haven’t reinstalled Windows after moving the drives, which might be the root cause of your problems. If driver issues persist after swapping hardware without reimaging, it’s likely the driver setup is faulty. You may need to reinstall Windows soon, as this could affect more than just the drive. Since you’re new, following these steps carefully should help, but details like previous specs or upgrade history make it harder.
