When I press the power button on the computer, the room's lightbulbs display power changes and then the machine restarts repeatedly, continuing to restart until I turn off the UPS for a few minutes before it resumes normal operation. This occurs randomly 1 to 3 times daily. The issue began after upgrading from an i3 6100 CPU to an i7 7700K, requiring a motherboard BIOS update as well. Initially, I suspected the new CPU was faulty and replaced it with the old one, but even then the computer would loop back to restart multiple times each day.
I disconnected all peripherals except the monitor, UPS, keyboard, mouse, graphics card, HDD, and RAM. Only these four components remained connected—motherboard, CPU, CPU fan, and PSU (SMPS). Despite this, the machine kept restarting. I also unplugged the UPS and connected directly to the power supply, but it didn’t help.
I attempted to reinstall the BIOS, considering it might be the cause, but it couldn’t be installed after the latest update. Instead, I used an older BIOS version that could be installed, though it still didn’t resolve the problem.
The issue seems confined to just three components: the motherboard, CPU, and PSU. I’m unsure how to identify which one is faulty without testing each individually, as doing so could lead to significant costs if incorrect.
My computer’s specs are:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte H110M-H
- CPU: Intel i3 6100
- PSU: Corsair TX550M 550W (80+ Gold)
- Graphics card: Gigabyte 2060 Super
- RAM: Corsair 4GB and additional brands
- SSD: Samsung 250 GB
- HDD: Western Digital 1000 GB
The problem persists even when using only the UPS and removing the plug from the power socket, but it doesn’t resolve. Other electrical devices connected to the same outlets work fine without fluctuations, only when the computer’s power button is pressed.
I’m seeking a way to determine which component is faulty without changing them one at a time, as this would be costly if misidentified.
Installed PSU details: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, used, refurbished).
Usage history: heavy gaming sessions.
UPS specifics: make, model, age, condition? Battery age?
Concern about flickering lights when power button is pressed – could indicate electrical issues.
Possible overloading of the circuit or another malfunction.
Recommend consulting a qualified electrician to inspect outlets, lighting, and connected devices.

Psu- Corsair TX550M 550W 80+ Gold, purchased new in January 2020. Condition remains excellent, no repairs ever made.
Not a high-end gamer; mainly play street fighter 6 at low settings.
UPS- Luminous Pro 1000, 1000 watts, battery performance is solid (provides 15 minutes or more backup).
UPS isn’t necessary since I connected the computer directly to power outlets after removing the UPS.
Issue didn’t occur outside the system—only when the computer’s power button was pressed.
A 3 1/2 year old 550 Watt PSU seems to be the most probable cause. There are two main points: 1.) Because of its age and usage, the PSU might be approaching its built-in EOL and beginning to fail. It can no longer meet power demands fully, especially during high loads or sudden spikes. 2.) The interim CPU (i7) could have surpassed a higher power requirement that the PSU can no longer support, even after reinstalling the i3. Do you have another PSU available for testing? A higher wattage would be better if possible. P.S.: This isn’t about rushing to purchase a new unit right away. I just looked into PSUs and used a couple of calculators to figure out the suitable wattage for your setup. If any parts list a range, go with the upper limit.
so you think its psu, but i dont have any other psu, i have to buy it. i want to buy only if its faulty but i guess there is no way i can confirm it without changing it..... probably i have to buy it first in all those 3 things.
If you possess a multimeter and understand its operation or have someone with expertise, you can perform some PSU testing.

This isn't a complete evaluation since the PSU isn't operating under load. Still, any voltages that fall outside acceptable ranges would suggest issues with the PSU.
The PSU was updated by me and it has been functioning properly since then, thank you everyone...
