Hello everyone, I need assistance with a recurring problem on my computer involving display freezing and significant delay when adjusting settings. Here’s what I have: My system runs Windows 11 Pro, build 22631 (23H2) with NVIDIA drivers installed. The GPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and I use a dual monitor setup—one ASUS ROG Strix OLED and the other ASUS TUF VG259QM. Both monitors are connected via DisplayPort, and DSC is turned off in the OSD.
The main issue starts right after logging into Windows. Both screens become unresponsive for a few seconds. The cursor stops moving, the desktop fails to load, and the whole system feels stuck. After roughly 10–15 seconds (now down to about 2 seconds), everything resumes normally—games, apps, and general tasks work fine. Safe Mode runs perfectly without any freezing.
In addition, I experience major lag or complete system freeze (up to 20 seconds) whenever I:
- Change resolution or refresh rate using the NVIDIA Control Panel or Display Settings
- Switch display modes in settings
- Open Display settings or adjust monitor configuration
These actions make basic setup tasks nearly impossible. I’ve tried several fixes so far: cleaning DDU installs of the listed drivers, disabling DSC in the OSD, turning off HDR, G-Sync, VRR, Night Light, disabling HAGS, removing ICC profiles, disconnecting the secondary monitor during boot/login, updating firmware, and using CRU to clear fallback resolutions.
After deleting all ICC profiles and cleaning resolutions with CRU, the post-login freeze time drops to around 2 seconds, but it still occurs every time on other users. The lag remains severe, often locking the system for nearly 20 seconds. I haven’t tried NVCleanstall for a minimal install or checked Event Viewer/Logs yet.
I’m hoping for advice or insights from others who might have faced similar issues. Could this be a driver problem, a deeper Windows 11/DWM issue, or something specific to the monitors? Thank you in advance for your help.
Join the discussions here! It might be faulty cables, but that’s unlikely. Likely a driver problem. NV drivers have been a complete mess since the 50-series release.
