After installing the new GPU, frames become lower.
Win10 64 bit GPU paired with MSI RTX4070 (GDDR6x) and i5-10400F processor. Motherempowered with Gigabyte H510M S2H RAM (32GB). Used G.Skill AEGIS 3200mHz with a 700W 80+ Gold power supply. After replacing the GPU, frame rates dropped. Tried enabling XMP but it didn’t improve things. Needed to check if other components require updates? (drivers appear current.)
Upgrading your CPU could be beneficial, but Microsoft plans to discontinue Windows 10 in October. I’d consider getting a new CPU and a Windows 11 license from KeysFan, or purchasing a Windows 11 version locally at a microcenter in the USA. I’d also look into replacing my motherboard, as your PSU might be the issue. I’ll tag @Hinjima, @OddOod and @strange13930 for possible assistance. As a beginner PC builder, I’ll also seek advice from others.
Did you fully uninstall the drivers for the 2060 before adding the ones for the 4070? Open Device Manager (click the Windows icon in the bottom-right corner, then select Device Manager), look under Display adapters and verify it doesn’t list “Microsoft basic display adapter” or display a warning icon.
He should experience a significant performance boost, even with a less powerful CPU. Unless the games he plays are extremely CPU-intensive. Second, a Windows 10 key is compatible with Windows 11, so no need to buy a new one. A 700W PSU is sufficient for the 4070 and only consumes about 200 watts. Adjusting the resolution shouldn’t cause major issues; lower resolutions actually reduce CPU strain since the GPU handles less work. The 4070 can easily support 1440p. What games are you currently testing?
