Your PC manual would be ideal for getting suggestions. Confirm if sticking with Intel means your board is compatible with 8th and 9th generation models.

I'm having trouble figuring out what I need because my board only supports a 7700k chip, which isn't great value. The guide is helpful but hard to follow. The 1600 is only slightly faster than my 6500 and adds two extra cores, though it won't really boost Minecraft shaders or game FPS much—just maybe a bit for background work. The 3600 model is popular but not listed, which makes things confusing. The 2600 seems missing from the list, so I'm still trying to sort this out.

I’ve already invested about ten hours, and I intend to add a benchmarks section to compare performance. But honestly, I’m too lazy for that right now. The best approach remains self-research using benchmarks and other relevant data. It really depends on the situation. You’re correct—this won’t affect the core performance. The clock speed is a useful reference, though some older processors still lag behind newer ones despite higher speeds. Check benchmarks for each option to find what suits you best. Right now, I’m seeing what’s currently running on my system (Discord, seven Chrome tabs, and Task Manager). The first six represent my six cores, while the next six are the extra threads. I’ve heard that having six cores is a minimum for smooth operation, but I don’t have solid proof to support it. My 2008 Phenom II with four cores ran well in background tasks last year, which likely drove up its price. I bought mine a year ago for $180 and once saw it listed at $165. Now it’s available on Amazon for $200, which is still reasonable—it’s just a bit faster than the 1600 and slower than the 3600. Keep doing your own research on what you need most. With all this free time... I should consider turning it into a career.

Thanks for the help! I’m planning to dive deeper into my own research. It’s a bit unexpected given my current 23% idle CPU usage—especially with Steam, Discord, and Spotify running quietly. The guide seems solid and really useful, so I’ll keep using it while I explore further. Just need to refine my understanding since figuring out what I actually need is tricky without testing everything myself.
