Hello friends, how are you? Well... I'm looking for the cheapest B550 capable of running a 5950X at stock. I'm inclined to the Asus TUF B550M Plus. But I like to see if anyone has a better option. TL;DL Now for the long story. I've being building my main rig since March 2020, at that time I bought a Gigabyte X570 and a 3900X with a 2060 but planning to upgrade to a 3080 as soon as 3000 series shows up. But in december my CPU died and i had to RMA it. Since AMD CPU shortage was at its peak, AMD refund me, they where quite generous. I have a secondary rig, which was my old PC, a 1600AF with a 1060 (at the time) and a Asrock A320M. Since my X570 supported the 1600AF i just plugged in for the time being. At this time the 3080 was already available but nowhere in stock. With some luck I've managed to pickup one within a reasonable price, obviously i didn't think twice, do to the GPU (and cpu) shortage. I've proceed to sell the 1060 and stick my 2060 in my second rig, still without a CPU in it, but i don't use it much, i can live without it. But that where the problems came, the 1600AF was so under-powered compared to the 3080 that i was suffering major stuttering, like for instance, beat saber, which i've played fine on my 2060 was unplayable on my 3080 and reading the news that AMD wont be able to supply the 5900X or the 5950X until the end of the year i bought a 5800X using the refund money which was the highest CPU available at the time. I could build another 3900X or a 3950X but I already had problems with one, better to be safe than sorry. Recently, even in shortage, my lucky ass found a 5950X at the store, i don't know what is happening, and i just look like once a week, i don't even put warnings or not, it was just there, at retail price. Bought it. Put my shine new 5950X on my main rig and I'm happy as it can be with it. I know the 5800X is more than enough for the 3080 but i also work on my computer and part of my work is run a bunch of VMs, which was hell on my 1600 and it was complicated on the 5800, that's why I need so many cores. A 3600X would be just fine if all i did was gaming. At least here, the 5950X is the cheapest way to build a powerful workstation. The alternative are Xeons, Threadrippers and Epycs and they honestly are over my budget. So okay, what does all this have to do with a B550 for a 5950X, well... I was thinking about putting my 5800X on my secondary rig but there I have a A320M which doesn't support 5000 series and its not a good board to run a 8 core. But I also want it to be compatible with my current setup in case i need to troubleshoot or RMA something. I know a lightning doesn't strike the same person twice but this A320M save my ass when troubleshooting my 3900X because for some divine miracle it was on the supported list. But this time i want something that i know i can run my 5950X for a month if my X570 on my main rig dies, I was kinda nervous putting a 3900X on that board even the manufacturer saying that its supported. I do really use the computer every day for work and that's why i didn't sold my old rig. That B550 has some caveats, it can be full ATX but i really like SFF so I do prefer if the board was mATX (controversially), since they are normally cheaper than ATX boards, its a win-win. If theres a full ATX cheaper than a mATX, i'll go with price. Feature set: bare minimum. The B550 chipset is just bc i dont think there's a A520 that i would trust with a 5950X that's the sole reason why i choosing that chipset, i would gladly go with A520 otherwise. I don't care about extra PCI-e lanes, USB ports, wifi, none of that. it needs to have a VRM capable of running a 5950X at stock without overheating, that's it. Also, I'm not from the US or Canada, so the prices here are kinda all over the place, some boards that should be cheap are expensive and some boards that should be expensive are cheap. So, maybe your suggestion would be absolutely perfect but when i look at the stores here the price its twice the other one that i was considering, making no sense to me. Oh, also, i don't do overclocking, because i don't think you get much advantage these days on AMD and because I cannot afford having my PC crashing in the middle of my work or wasting 2 days checking if my system is stable. So I run every piece of hardware at stock. Oh, and almost forgot, some sort of BIOS recovery utility, like flashback or qflash, don't need troubleshoot LEDs or power buttons, but a bios recovery is a must, i dont upgrade the bios quite often, normally only if for some reason its unstable or doesnt support my hardware and in that time i want to make sure that i wont brick an expensive piece of hardware bc the power gone out and my nobreak crashed for some reason. I choose the Asus TUF for now bc was one of the cheapest board i could find after doing some researches and checking that its capable of running a 5950X on stock, but I really like second opinions. Thank you guys once again for the help and I appreciate any help.
