Tips for Extending Your Survival in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds By PacketAtlas – 4/11/2017
First, it’s important to stress that I’m not a seasoned pro. I’m sharing my personal approach to improve my performance in the game. Please take your time reading and share your thoughts. If you have any ideas, feel free!
What is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? It’s a Battle Royale style game that launched early access on March 23. The main aim is to explore houses and structures to gather weapons, ammunition, and gear. You begin by landing on an airplane that flies straight across the map. After a short period, you’ll be prompted to press F and exit. Once on the ground, you can move freely, collect equipment, and defend against opponents. A timer will appear, indicating how much time you have before a massive wall appears around a specific area of the map in a shrinking circle. Your task is to remain within that zone; otherwise, your health will gradually decrease. The intensity of damage increases as the game progresses. Additionally, red zones will randomly appear throughout the map, dropping bombs from above. It can get quite chaotic! But don’t worry—mastering the basics takes some practice.
Setting up your game properly is crucial. Make sure Foliage and Shadows are set to low levels, which enhances visibility by clearing out much of the grass and brightening the scene. Disable motion blur, as it’s unnecessary. Also, slightly increase your brightness settings since buildings can become very dark. Before starting, confirm your key bindings are configured correctly—keep essential items like first-aid, med-kit, and bandages within easy reach.
Choosing your landing spot is key to your match outcome. Aim for areas where loot is accessible but not overly crowded. Avoid major cities, even though they offer lots of resources, because they also attract many players. While in the air, use the free look feature by holding Alt to scan your surroundings. Check where others are landing to avoid surprises.
When you land, focus on securing weapons quickly. Even a simple pistol is valuable—aim for the first one you see. If you spot an enemy, prioritize eliminating them before they target you. Either approach quietly or wait for them to emerge from a building. Always close doors behind you for two reasons: to prevent noise alerts and to mislead opponents into thinking no one entered.
Don’t collect unnecessary loot. Having too many bullets or ammo isn’t helpful; stick to essentials like 12-gauge rounds and a shotgun if needed. Avoid overloading yourself with bandages—aim for 20-30. Helmets, backpacks, and vests have different levels; higher levels provide better protection and loot space.
Vehicles are noisy and slow you down, especially late in the game. If possible, leave them behind when there are around 50 players left.
Weapons and accessories: Always carry at least one ranged weapon. The map can be open in some areas, so an 8x scope or higher is beneficial. Be mindful of your fire mode—use automatic at short distances and switch to semi-automatic for precision. Keep grenades, smoke bombs, and flashbangs handy for emergencies, but don’t stockpile them.
Awareness is crucial. Constantly scan your environment for threats, especially when entering houses. Be cautious about opening doors; enemies may hear you and assume you’re inside.
In the late game, if you’re not in the center of the circle, staying on the edges can help. Wait until the timer ends to move, as this gives you time to gather more loot and avoid being caught. Moving too early can put you at risk.
Lastly, always prioritize stealth and positioning. By staying hidden and using the map to your advantage, you’ll increase your chances of survival.
