Advice for overclocking I7 5820k again?
Hello, after discussing the potential CPU change, I chose to keep my i7 5820k and overclock it for better single-core performance.
Do you think a Cooler Master Liquid Pro 240 (pull/push) cooler would suffice for this setup?
I use this processor for both gaming and video encoding, so I believe the six-core model offers a good mix of single and multi-core performance. I prefer not to go for Ryzen full workstation or Sky/Kaby Lake versions for gaming.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Initially, yes the cooler works well for a solid overclock, essentially nothing to be concerned about.
You just need to adjust the core voltage and multiplier settings. A suitable starting point would be 4.2 GHz with a 1.2Volt Vcore. If everything runs smoothly and temperatures stay under control, you can gradually raise the multiplier to 4.3 or 4.4 without altering the voltage. If the system begins to crash, it indicates instability—either revert to a stable configuration or increase the voltage by 0.01V until stability returns. It’s best not to go beyond 1.3V for regular use unless your cooling and temperature management are exceptional.
Additionally, you might find YouTube tutorials helpful if you're unsure about the process, as there are many solid guides available on 5820K overclocking.
