Hello,

I own a HPE tower server at home. There are two drive cages, each holding four HDDs. Each cage has one power supply connection of 12V and one SATA port.

Now, I have a third drive cage and want to add another four HDDs there. For the SATA connections, everything is fine since I already have an LSI SATA expansion card. The main challenge is with the power supply.

Here’s what I know:
1. Two power cables run from the PSU to the existing cages. Each connects to an 8-pin male connector.
2. There is another unused 12V cable, which fits a 6-pin + 6-pin + 2-pin connector. This seems intended for a graphics card, but it’s not needed here. The 6-pin can go into the female 8-pin socket on the new cage, though the 2-pin won’t fit in the empty slots of the existing 8-pin socket.
3. I believe I need a splitter—specifically an 8-pin to two 8-pin male connector. This would allow one male for the current cage and another for the new one. But I’m unsure about the correct cable to use.

There are eight-pin female to two 8-pin male splitters available for MB. Would that work?

Please advise on how to resolve this issue.

Thanks.

Update your post with complete hardware specifications and operating system details.
Power supply: make, model, wattage, age, condition.
Storage devices: type, manufacturer, capacity, current usage.
Connection details: pinouts or splitter compatibility are unclear.
Potential concerns: running into power issues; 12 HDDs might be excessive.
RAID setup information required.
PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition.
Drives: specifications and configuration needed.
