I discovered a budget 15-core E7-4880v2 at $15 on eBay. I need to assemble a server-like PC for demanding tasks, as my gaming PC struggles with it. I found a dual-slot C602j chipset, which seems to be the only option for the E7's support. However, those dual-socket boards for the E7 are extremely expensive. Would this Supermicro board be compatible? Thanks to the provided links for both CPU and motherboard details.

Xeon ?-4 processors can work with quad-socket setups, though it isn't mandatory. The dual-socket version (Xeon ?-2?) can operate independently. Check the motherboard guide for specific CPU compatibility details.

The site lists only E5 2600 series versions, not E7. I’ll check the manual online. EDIT: It seems there’s no reference to anything other than E7. I’d really like this board, especially since it’s an ATX model.

The E7 can function properly independently, however it won't work with that motherboard since it doesn't support E7 Xeons.

I don't want to spend a ridiculous sum on a motherboard, and all the compatible CPUs are costly for low performance. I think I won't be able to manage this affordably.
