It varies by game but usually involves a mix of multi-threaded and single-threaded tasks. Single-core speed matters more for gaming than multiple cores, though too few cores can hurt performance. The optimal setup these days is around 6 cores with 12 threads, making the 3600X, 8700K, 10600K, and 5600X options all solid choices (the 2600 works too since it's weaker on single-core).
