Your sound card has two microphone inputs, one for each direction. When you connect a mic, only one channel is audible depending on the setup. Adobe Audition can duplicate channels in real time, though you’ll need to use a virtual cable for that. I’m not sure if there’s a specific guide for this, but you might find tutorials online or documentation related to virtual routing.
