Hi there, I'm just checking in to share my setup details. I have an i5 4690k, an ASRock Z97 Extreme4, and an overclocked R9 290 PowerPC with a Corsair H100i GTX cooler. The room temperature was around 22°C during testing. My first test had the CPU at turbo boost to 3.9GHz (stock is 3.5GHz), and after a one-hour stress test on AIDA64, the max temp reached 49°C. I kept the fan speed at 40% and didn’t change it for the rest of the tests. For the next step, I overclocked to 4.5GHz and ran the same test for an hour; the max temp rose to 67°C. I monitored temperatures for about a week, with benchmarks showing gaming temps at 61°C and another stress test pushing it up to 74°C on hotter days.
I’m wondering if this overclock is stable and whether it could impact the CPU’s lifespan. Should I be concerned?
Hi, I've been using my i5-4690K at 4.7GHz for nearly three years now. It's performing really well—staying under 30°C when idle and never reaching the 60°C mark during heavy use. I'm running a powerful tower cooler from "Be Quiet!" and believe you should be fine. Temperatures between 60-70°C are normal, and going over 70°C is just typical at high usage.
As long as it doesn't exceed 80°, I think you're fine. Have you experimented with the same overclock at a reduced voltage?
