Hello everyone, I recently upgraded my desktop from an Intel 7 7700K to a Ryzen 9 3900X. I run it for a home business involving picture and (future) movie editing. I’ve kept the same cooling setup—a Hydro Series™ H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler with two 140mm fans front-mounted. With this configuration, the Ryzen 9 3900X typically stays around 55°C or about 20°C above ambient. Under load it rises quickly to 90°C+, but it cools down fast if the workload is short, which fits my needs well. I realize I should probably upgrade the cooling, but I’m wondering if my temps would be considered normal for a 3900X. Compared to the 7700K, its performance is impressive—completely out of the league! It pairs perfectly with an ASRock X570 Taichi.

Turn off CPB and PBO in the BIOS, and maintain voltages below 1.4V

You shouldn't push the temperature above 90 often. Just a brief increase when the processor handles heavy tasks, though this is uncommon now since AMD released new updates. Idle performance is usually stable, but it might drop slightly depending on how idle the machine is. Keep your BIOS updated and install the latest AMD X570 drivers. Use either the balanced power profile or the 1susmus profile for optimal cooling. An AIO cooler should work as long as it was functioning well with your previous CPU.

I'm running the Noctua NH-U12A at peak temps of 87°C to 90°C during heavy use. Most parts are available except infinity fabric and RAM, which are 1800MHz. The temperatures are a bit high for a standard water cooler. Could you clarify your setup and where it's installed? Also, consider repositioning the cooler or applying extra thermal paste if needed.

Also verify applying the X-method or a pre-applied thin layer across the entire IHS with thermal paste. The 'dot in the center' approach works best for Intel chips, but it's less reliable here due to the presence of multiple dies.

I lowered the CPU voltage offset by -0.100, changed to Windows Balanced Power Plan, disabled OC, and ran a custom EKWB 360 loop. Idle temps are in the low 30s, everyday use around 40°C, heavy gaming hits 60°C.
