I just finished assembling my first PC and now I'm thinking about boosting its performance. I have an Asus Z170-A with an i5 6600K and a Corsair H100i v2. I've adjusted the voltage and core multiplier, but I still have some questions. First, does the offset affect the voltage depending on the stock setting? Will the stock voltage change, and should I use an adaptive or fixed one?

I also tried a modest overclock with all cores synced at 42x and 1.25 volts. It started up normally in Windows but couldn't exceed 3900 MHz, which is the standard boost frequency. According to HWMonitor, the CPU was being fed 1.25 volts while running at 3900 MHz. I haven’t checked CPU-Z yet.
