This was typical for earlier Ryzen models, but Zen 2 presents a unique situation. You can push the voltage higher with more offset, though you're still working with a Zen+ processor. Much of what you know from previous generations applies here too. With my old R7 1700, I manually adjusted it to exceed 3.9GHz using voltages around 1.3750V, which worked well. I applied similar techniques with my new R7 3800x, but others warned me against it. Research shows 1.4V is unsafe and even 1.3250V carries risks—this was well-known before. You can handle higher boost frequencies longer now, and benchmarks like CB20 show improved performance at 1.2500V. Before diving into RAM tuning, make sure you fully understand this information.

Sorry, my signature hasn't been updated yet. I've been using a 3900X and keeping it running non-stop over the past few days. I don't think setting the voltage manually to 1.4V is necessary. It's okay if the CPU operates at those voltages when VCORE is either set to Auto or Offset. You're repeating the same error people made by thinking a fixed voltage like 1.3250V was safe after reading The Stilt's post, even though that statement was a blanket warning. I actually read The Stilt's post and the discussion around it. It seems this is specific to each case. For Zen 2/Ryzen 3000 chips, 1.25V should likely work because of the clock stretcher effect. Previously, with manual VCORE settings, the multiplier stayed constant. To understand how clock stretching impacts your performance on lighter workloads, try running a single-threaded test at 1.25V with an offset or Auto setting. On my machine, 1.25V gave a solid 178 points while clocks showed 4.5+GHz. After adjusting to an offset, the score improved to 213 points with similar clock readings. That 18% drop is what clock stretching does to ensure stability.

Hello, thank you for your message. I’ll review everything carefully. I didn’t receive notifications because I assumed email alerts were active. After adding my signature, I’m missing the stock cooling and have a Cryorig H5. Whenever I turn on DOCP, sometimes the system fails to load. When it does, everything works fine. But often, around five times out of ten, it doesn’t start and stays blank. The reset button isn’t effective, and the only way to shut it down is by holding the power button for five seconds. Usually this happens just once before it restarts, but sometimes it gets stuck repeatedly before waking up again. As soon as I turned off DOCP, the issue disappeared. What a surprise!

People worry too much about touching things in bios I for one have an Asus x570-p motherboard with a x3700 running all cores at 4300 with no issues what so ever. Had it to 4500 but was very unstable. Some of the adjusting in bios is trial and error but there is enough info on the net to guide you. Note: you must at least change the cooler to achieve the higher clocks as mine under full load in stress testing hits around 70c with a top of the line Noctua air cooler. Memory I wouldn't bother so much as there are mixed results here with only minor gains. I am running 4 x 8gb Gskill 3600 @ 16-19-19-38 Cinabench 20 scores a nice 5200 or so. Only now need to upgrade the graphics card to an Nvidia 3800 or better as I am choking the system with my gtx 1060 6gb card Trev...
