I received an 8-core, 16-thread Coffee Lake CPU with a base clock of 2.1 GHz boosted up to 39-4.4 GHz. It seems like a mobile prototype. The power allowance is 45W. The goal is to extract the best performance within that limit. I adjusted the vcore to 1.4x and set boosting between 4.6-5.1, which improved single-threaded results more than multi-core. Cr15 multi-core dropped from 1300 to 1207, while single-core jumped from 192 to 216. I’m confident it will run better in single-thread tasks like gaming or Adobe Photoshop. For the uncore ratio, increasing it would raise power consumption and possibly reduce performance under the 45W cap—so you might see a trade-off. The CPU likely adjusts its core-to-uncore balance automatically to stay within power limits while aiming for peak efficiency. Running benchmarks on various apps will take time, but this should give you a clearer picture.

You might run some tests, though unless you’re boosting voltages like the System Agent (which Uncore supports), any extra power draw will come mainly from the CPU’s improved efficiency per clock cycle—typically staying well below a watt.

Yes, you're understanding correctly. The extra power consumption comes from having more cores working harder when the uncore ratio improves. Increasing it shouldn't cause issues if you're managing it properly.

You can raise the power limits even for mobile CPUs. Raising the voltage boosts power use, causing the CPU to throttle and stay within the 45W limit. Most users with mobile CPUs do the reverse—use lower voltage for reduced power so the processor runs more efficiently. Clarify whether you're using a laptop or adding this CPU to a desktop. Share a CPU-Z screenshot. If BIOS doesn't offer power control settings, consider Intel XTU or ThrottleStop.
