Adjusting a single BIOS parameter causes system performance to decrease
I recently purchased an RTX 3060 and used the built-in graphics on the Ryzen 5600G before. Now that I’m using the BIOS and disabling integrated graphics even though the PEG adapter is selected instead of IGD, my system runs extremely slow and programs won’t open. I’m trying to use the GPU without slowing everything down. I also have an MSI X570 Pro Carbon MOBO. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
Understand the role of CPUs with integrated GPUs. These combine the main processing power with a built-in graphics unit, offering performance close to a dedicated GPU but at a lower cost. This setup can make the system feel quite capable, especially for tasks like gaming or video editing. However, when the CPU needs to communicate with a separate GPU via PCIe lanes, speed can drop significantly. In your case, a 3600 processor might hit near full capacity just to run an RTX3060ti smoothly. I recommend moving to a 5600 or 5800 and possibly upgrading your motherboard for better performance. This change will likely pay off. Edited June 29, 2022 by An0maly_76 Revised, more info
This claim is incorrect. The main distinctions between 5600 and 5600G lie in their cache size and PCIe 3.0 support. Both remain Zen3 and function similarly. See the benchmark links for details. The 5600g stays within 6% of the 5600 model and is about 16% quicker than its predecessor. You don’t need to buy new parts and there’s no CPU limitation. It’s not advisable to upgrade unless you’re willing to spend a lot. Make sure the HDMI/DP cable matches the graphics card port; some BIOS settings let the iGPU run in limited mode, allowing basic screen output. If possible, use DDU in safe mode to clear AMD drivers before reinstalling Nvidia drivers.
The issue likely stems from the AMD iGPU drivers affecting the CPU performance. It seems the 5600G isn't matching the 5600 in speed, possibly due to driver-related delays.
It might be linked to OPs drivers, but we need to wait for OP's input. The 5600 offers a slight improvement over the 5600g, mainly due to more cache which matters in specific games. For detailed comparisons, you can visit https://www.techspot.com/review/2302-amd-ryzen-5600g/ which directly contrasts the 5600x5600g and 3600 models. The 5600g also supports 16 PCIe lanes, so this shouldn't be a problem.
