I looked through the forums and didn’t spot a dedicated thread for this set of in-depth articles about GTA V graphics settings and benchmarks. Given the frequent questions like “What settings do I use?” and “My FPS is low,” I thought sharing my recommended configuration might help. I applied their suggested settings for a GTX 980 at 1440p (FXAA only, soft shadows, maxed out except for very high grass, high resolution shadows) and consistently achieved 75-85fps, with occasional drops to around 60fps in rural areas. For more details, check the links provided: Video Card Performance Preview, Single GPU Performance Review, Multi-GPU Performance Review, and Shadow Features Performance Evaluation. They’re still adding more content, so stay tuned.

And here I am using the maximum options at 4x MSAA, including advanced settings, at 1080p. The performance stays near 65 fps and falls to around 50 in intricate environments. Playing with a controller makes any changes less noticeable.

I’d prefer a thorough analysis of CPU performance, especially since GTA V demands significant processing power. Unfortunately, nobody has done that before. Also, the frame rate is just one aspect—I’m curious about the actual timing experiences.

Guru3D conducted research on frame times, focusing mainly on Titan X and R9 290X. More details can be found at the provided link.

I'm really enjoying this GTX980 for a week now. Even with GTA5 on ultra settings, it runs smoothly at 35 to 66 FPS—perfect performance without overheating beyond 60. I can fully experience the details and enjoy the gameplay without any issues. For me, beautiful visuals are more important than high frame rates.

my configuration is 1080p, fxaa only, and everything else at full capacity, while advanced options are disabled. normally i see 90-100 fps, with occasional drops to 70fps. sometimes I run at 290x on an i7 4790k without overclocking.

I manage MSAA at double speed in the city, but once I leave town my FPS drops to about 35 frames per second, making it nearly impossible to play, and the same happens with Ultra grass. Are you using 1440p resolution? Have you left the city already? I haven’t played on consoles before, so I don’t understand how you manage at 30fps.

It seems you're asking if the issue might be related to your seating position. When using a controller, staying in a chair rather than a standing position can affect your awareness of frame rates. You might not notice FPS drops because your posture doesn't change much while playing.

I remain seated at my desk with the controller still in hand. It's challenging to detect the distinction between 55 and 60 frames per second, and because of the controller's latency, I don't truly sense the decrease in FPS like I would if using M&K.

The frame rate stayed fairly stable, only dipping slightly to 35fps. Even with G-sync support, it became difficult for me to view the content clearly.
