adjust timing to 4.5 8700 non k
Hi, I upgraded my system with several components. You have an i7-3770k from the 3rd generation, a GSKILL 2x 8GB stick (16GB total), a 12400 max speed RAM, and a Gigabyte GA-Z77X UD5H LGA1155 motherboard. You also added a Gigabyte Z390UD 8th gen i7 (non-delidded) and 32GB RAM at 3000MHz. The motherboard supports overclocking to around 4.42 GHz. You're aiming for a higher clock speed of 4.5 GHz and want to know if that's achievable. You mentioned a 2008 Silencer power supply and need more details about your setup. Let me know if you'd like help with anything else.
i7-8700 non-K supports DDR4-2666 only with a B360 motherboard. The processor already boosts up to 4.6 GHz... so why would you prefer a slower speed? The boost profiles are 4600 MHz (1 core), 4500 MHz (2 cores), 4400 MHz (3 cores), 4300 MHz (4 cores), 4300 MHz (5 cores), and 4300 MHz (6 cores).
Overclocking isn't feasible on the 8700. You might be able to turn on MCE, but that's roughly all you can do. You'll also need a good cooler and power supply. I have an 8th gen i7 that gets very hot and consumes a lot of power.
