Lately, my sister's laptop experienced a strange issue after a major power surge. Once it starts up, the screen functions normally, but within seconds (5-6 seconds) it suddenly fades and doesn't recover. This problem began right after the laptop fell. Everything inside the machine looks fine.

It suggests there might be a problem with the monitor's internal components. Have you attempted to connect the laptop to a TV for testing and observed any changes in functionality?

When I link it to an external display, the laptop functions flawlessly. However, the issue persists because it’s not just the screen that’s malfunctioning—it’s another component that’s stopping it.

Inspect the ribbon cable linking the display to the laptop's mainboard. It may have disconnected due to the recent issue.

It seems the issue might be with the panel's backlight or the ribbon cable. The main components of a laptop screen are often just the ribbon cable and panel. If changing the ribbon doesn’t resolve the problem, swapping out the panel could be the next step. These parts aren’t usually costly unless the screen has advanced features. Standard 1080p panels cost less than $100.
