Adjust settings for smooth performance at 30 FPS.
30 fps works within my expectations since consoles... but a console 30fps feels noticeably smoother than PC 30 fps because they employ certain techniques to trick your brain into perceiving less delay. On the PC, moving the mouse makes it seem instant, which is why it appears laggy on 30fps—joysticks and motion blur help mask that issue. To enhance the 30fps experience on PC, use a controller and enable motion blur while turning off MSAA.
Typically, games allow you to adjust the frame rate limit. Since your system can reach 60 frames per second, aiming for 30 fps isn’t necessary or optimal.
I believe console 30fps feels just as frustrating as PC 30fps. I purchased Destiny 1 for the Xbox One but overlooked its 30fps limit. Spent under five minutes playing, found it unbearable, and haven't returned since it was more than a year ago.
The Witcher 3 serves as a clear illustration. At 24 frames per second, it appears fluid compared to titles that run at around 40 frames per second.
At 60hz refresh rate with 24 frames per second, the image would appear choppy and lack fluidity.
I haven’t seen any major problems with it. For Witcher 3, other titles usually look more like slideshows at that refresh rate. The actual frame rate is around 27Hz.
Calculate the details. A 60hz screen updates 60 times each second, which equals a refresh rate of 16.66ms. At 24fps, the timing doesn't align perfectly with 60. When using 30fps, the frames repeat every two refresh cycles. Each frame stays visible for about 33.33ms. This means you display a frame for two cycles, then skip to three, then two, then three, and continue in that pattern. The timing becomes inconsistent, resulting in a choppy visual experience.
