Adjust OpenVPN performance on Archer C1200
Adjust OpenVPN performance on Archer C1200
You're experiencing limited speeds on your OpenVPN server despite using a capable router. It's not uncommon for performance to vary based on network conditions and configuration. Check settings like UDP port, tunnel mode, and firewall rules. Ensure your client is using the correct IP and port. If you're seeing higher speeds elsewhere, consider bandwidth sharing or ISP restrictions.
Which features are you looking for? I attempted to turn off QoS and noticed it drops performance to around 1 Mbps. I also tried activating Nat Boost, but the results were unchanged. It seems Nat Boost and QoS can't be used together on this device. The router appears to have a 900Mhz CPU; is that sufficient for your needs, or are there misunderstandings about its capabilities?
It's unlikely most users achieve such high speeds with their C7 under WiFi conditions. Running at 80Mbit from a VPN can demand significant processing power if security is prioritized.
You're using OpenWRT, which is great for tracking WiFi clients and boosting performance. I'll compile a list of all connected devices for security and monitoring. I'm also looking forward to checking how OpenVPN performs since you're interested in that.
It looks like this device is likely Broadcom-made, making performance comparisons tricky. Your clock runs at 900Mhz compared to the C7’s 720Mhz, and it’s unclear if they share similar features—possibly WPA is removed from the hardware. AES acceleration isn’t clear either. I’ll still run a test to establish a basic baseline.
