I have an i5 9600k and attempted an overclock. It was my first experience, so I tried 5 GHz but it wasn’t stable, so I lowered it to about 4.9 GHz with a voltage of 1.36v. I’m using a Coolermaster 120mm liquid cooler running at full speed. During the Cinebench test I got around 77°C, and about 45°C at idle. Is this typical? Also, could someone advise me on how to try overclocking to 5 GHz? I’m unsure why it’s unstable and whether it’s safe to stop here.

I would personally stop there. You should definitely aim for 5.0ghz, but if it's unstable at 1.36v you’ll probably need more voltage or a higher level of LLC to achieve stable performance. The 77c load temperatures are acceptable. A 45c idle temperature is a bit elevated compared to what I’d expect given the load temperatures, though it’s not unsafe. Are the ambient air temperatures unusually high for your setup? Or is the case ventilation quite limited?

Is the surrounding air temperature unusually high, or is your case getting poor airflow?
