Hey everyone, I understand there are countless discussions on this subject, but my performance is really struggling. I own a Pentium G3258 at 3.2 GHz (bought just before the G3258 was released), paired with an Radeon HD 5870 running at 950 MHz. I checked Luke's GTA V benchmarks and saw he achieved about 51 fps on a dual-core CPU, while I’m hovering around 30 fps, capped at 90-100% with only 24 fps in city mode. It’s obvious the CPU is limiting things, since my GPU rarely goes above 35%. I’ve kept all settings normal, lowered distance scaling, population, variety, etc., to their minimums. I’m playing at 1600x900 and haven’t found much improvement even when lowering resolution. Thermal throttling isn’t an issue—temperatures are stable and I’ve added bigger heatsinks to both the CPU and GPU. I’ve also used a script to close the launcher after 60 seconds and set gtav.exe to high priority. There don’t seem to be other background processes hogging the CPU. Any tips to boost my frame rate? Or, worst case, if I must keep the game at 30 fps, are there settings I can tweak to let more of my GPU’s power shine without much impact on the CPU? Thanks!
It's hard to fix anything about it. The CPU is the issue, but it can't be overclocked, so you're probably stuck. You might try boosting the graphics settings since the GPU can manage them better, and it shouldn't really impact the frame rate unless you push too much.
I wondered how you came to believe a dual-core processor would perform well in GTA5. That game is quite intense. Just upgrade the CPU if you want better results. Even my average i5 handles it very smoothly.
