Adding RAM
Adding RAM
I assembled my first PC two weeks ago with 16GB of RAM. I just bought another 16GB of the same type. Should I power it off and unplug it before installing the new RAM? I'm sorry if this seems simple, but I'm new and don't want to risk damaging anything, especially after investing so much. Thanks.
You're asking if it was necessary to unplug, and you believe that would simplify things.
Ensuring the PSU power button is turned off is always recommended prior to any hardware installation or removal.
You can keep your connections intact if you have enough room and cable length. If not, move everything out so you can place the computer flat where it fits. Avoid risky changes unless you're comfortable with modifying the case directly—something Linus handled for his "Compensator 3.0" design.
