Added more RAM but encountered issues.
Hey there, I'm facing a tricky issue right now. This is my first time upgrading RAM and things have gone wrong. After installing three new sticks and booting up, everything seemed normal. I played for about six hours of Code and was just chilling on Discord when my PC displayed a blue screen with an error code—something like QRL. After it rebooted, it worked again but then showed a different code each time. Eventually, I tried replacing the sticks one by one, starting with the original and moving to the new ones. They all functioned fine. Then I added two more in separate slots and everything is now stable.
However, if I put all four in at once, it triggers the same error codes. My old RAM seems to be an older model, while the new ones are updated versions. The differences are minor except for a small discrepancy in the serial numbers—maybe my original unit is outdated and the new ones are better.
I’m wondering if having multiple identical sticks can cause this problem. Could you share pictures of both sets? Any thoughts on whether this is normal or something I should avoid? I was expecting this to be a straightforward process, but it’s turning out more complicated than I thought.
I watched that on YouTube, but I'm anxious about actually trying it out and damaging the motherboard. Whenever I open it up, I turn everything off and unplug it, but my lack of experience makes me hesitant. Still, I'll give it a shot—I'll check the B450 A-Pro manual to find the exact steps.
Disconnect the CMOS battery, start the device for roughly a minute, then replace it. Hope this works. Also, the current model differs from previous ones, likely preventing dual or quad channel operation.
I took out the old part and half of the three new sticks; it functioned well for about an hour and a half before the computer started crashing again.
My understanding is that my MSI B450 A Pro is running the latest update. I just ran a memory test using the three new RAM modules, and the results show everything is normal.
