I put in a new 990 pro into my second M.2 slot but kept getting the error about USB over current status and system shutdown after 15 seconds. I tried fixing it by removing the 990, disconnecting all USB devices, taking off USB headers on the board, unplugging fans and CPU pump connections, resetting the CMOS battery, and even the red light came on. It seems the issue might still be related to the motherboard itself.

Are there any missing jumpers or issues with the USB headers? If not, it might be a BIOS problem—consider updating it. If that fails, the motherboard could be damaged.

All components are functioning correctly. I’d need to upload updated firmware at work and attempt again tomorrow. However, I believe removing the faulty SSD and resetting the CMOS battery might have resolved the issue previously.

I’d say the same thing, but you understand what computers do if it can happen.
