Added a new fan and configured PC shutdown.
So here's a little back story. I noticed my gf's exhaust fan wasn't working. I inspected it, finding out that the wire had melting exposing the power wires. It has even started fusing to one of the psu molex cables. I removed that fan, put the panels back on and we used it for the night. Today the new fan came in, I plugged it into sys_fan1 header. And then I plugged the argb into the jrainbow1 header - msi z490 plus motherboard. I turned the pc on, everything was starting up - including the new fan with the rgb working - and then the pc shutoff all by itself. Now there's absolutely no power anywhere. Is it safe to say it's the PSU given the wire situation before or could there be something else? Any help or direction would be much appreciated
Oh, I tried that. There's no power anywhere. No motherboard lights or anything
I'm reviewing every PSU cable and plug to confirm no other issues occurred. Could you tell me the specific model or make of the power supply unit?
The model seems uncertain, but the PSU recommends using marblebron. This PC is a ready-made unit from the EU. I've already placed an order for a replacement PSU. I was just curious if there were other issues that might have occurred. Clearly, the melted fan cable wasn't the cause. Converting it to a Molex wire could have left the PSU vulnerable to a short circuit after I disconnected the wires. I'm reaching out to more experienced folks for additional insights. The fan performed perfectly at 100% during boot-up, including RGB lighting, so it doesn’t appear my actions were responsible. It just failed quickly—within 5 to 10 seconds of powering on, it shut down completely.
