I'm not sure why this setting is useful at all. In my case it raises the voltage too much.
I use an Asus Z97-AR / I5-4670k and have read that it spikes voltage during stress tests but also in other scenarios, such as with Windows Defender.
I just began a mild overclock on this board and here are my results.
Running in manual mode in BIOS helped.
It only ran for 15 minutes on the test and I haven't had any problems.
Should I keep it in manual or try adaptive mode more?
Adaptive setting automatically adjusts your voltage based on the load. During overclocking, it's best to switch to Override or manual mode. Occasionally you might need a slight offset. Usually, I rely on Manual plus offset to achieve the target voltage.
