I'm dealing with this and currently have VMs and some older machines for testing. Everything seems to be running smoothly, and I have the documentation ready. The only issue is DFS—it causes problems when I disconnect the Ethernet from ADPC1. Files are copying to ADPC2, but the share stops working. I think there might be something I'm doing incorrectly.

Are you utilizing dfs namespaces? This should enable automatic switching between servers. Consider restarting the workstations to test connectivity to the alternate server. I believe there may be some downtime if one server fails, but such incidents are uncommon, so it shouldn’t be a major concern.

Yes, both servers are included in the namespace and DNS is configured correctly.

This suggests your configuration should point to a backup location called NAMEMainStorage. Disconnecting the primary server causes the system to fail.

Choose your namespace first, then locate the tab labeled Namespace servers on the right side. Both servers should appear there.

Yes, after right-clicking the folder upon mounting, you will observe both targets within their DFS name spaces.

85 users shouldn't need failover or redundancy, especially from a software perspective. The most likely point of failure will be storage or ransomware attacks. I've seen single AD servers manage over 2000 accounts smoothly. Also, DFS might still face issues, though it has improved significantly.

We understand the importance of minimal downtime. A failure like a failing motherboard could result in significant penalties—potentially up to £4k per day for each affected customer. With more than 200 clients, maintaining reliability is crucial. Running just two AD servers provides better resilience compared to relying on a single system. Our backups are stored on external SSDs that are taken off-site nightly.

Can we connect to the alternate server? Is the replication process functioning correctly?
