Entering the generic key grants access for 30 days. After that, certain OS customization features become unavailable. A "Activate Windows" mark will appear in the lower-right corner of the display. If you select "I don't have a key" or "skip," and no key is linked to your hardware, Microsoft account, or OEM system (where keys are stored in UEFI), the software will remain unactivated. This results in disabled personalization options and the persistent watermark on the screen.
