Act quickly. Internet unavailable after router reset.
Used a Zyxel router in bridge mode to switch to another device, but it didn’t work. Couldn’t revert back to the original settings to disable bridge mode. The router reset, but the internet light stayed red. No clear reason for the change; it was functioning before. I’m losing internet access now and don’t know why. Contacting my ISP helped them say nothing and sent me to a business line. Anyone have advice? I’d rather be without internet for a few days.
If you've already reset the router, use the default IP address to log in. Verify that DHCP is active or that your ISP's configuration is set up to provide internet access.
I confirmed DHCP is active. No other configuration changes stood out. My ISP suggested using just the router and assuming no modem is needed, but the line still didn’t show internet.
Who provides internet service? What are the specifications of your network equipment? How do these components connect together? Before activating any gateway device in bridge or passthrough mode, consult your ISP’s technical support. They may provide instructions on special steps, PPPoE details, or VLAN information needed to get your router operational—especially important for fiber connections. If issues persist, they can guide you through a solution. Setting the ISP gateway in bridge mode typically disables WebUI access via Ethernet ports. A standard hard reset usually restores normal function, but if it doesn’t, reach out to your ISP’s advanced support team for assistance.
