Account taken over by Support Moderator in Steam account theft case.
Hey there, guys. My friend received a Steam message claiming someone he knows is breaking the community rules. Apparently, the person says my friend is banned pending investigation. The scammer claims to be a Steam support moderator and points to accounts like FireSlash (ChrisK) and a short clip showing him using Steam tools on my friend’s account. This has occurred twice. The first incident involved requesting 130$ worth of rare TF2 items from the marketplace. My friend also had a conversation with Steam support, but it ended in account loss. The scammer reached out via my friend’s hijacked account and through FireSlash’s account. Help is needed—what should be done to stop this and recover the account? Also, why do you think Steam support sometimes targets users? I’ve attached some chat screenshots (though only a few from The Scammer are visible). Thanks for your help!
I know immediately this wasn't Steam support. The friend was tricked by a scam. Reach out to genuine Steam support to try and recover it.
It seems they might try to take your password and alter it so you can’t log in. That’s not happening, is it? Just update your password and contact Steam, letting them know what’s going on.
It seems you're unsure, but Steam Support appears to be the best choice available.
