Accidentally made contact with the PSU on your Acer monitor, are you worried about it?
I recently encountered a problem with my Acer monitor, where all the pixels appeared distorted. Being a 3-year-old device, I chose to explore its internal motherboard out of curiosity and to check for any visible damage. About three to four weeks ago, I disassembled the case and left it unplugged. Today, I decided to dig further and remove the screws securing the two motherboards. I spotted the power supply port on one board but didn’t realize the entire motherboard housed all the PSU components until I took it off completely. I mistakenly thought it wouldn’t be exposed, so I only touched a few cables and gently pressed on the outside edges to secure it. When I realized what I was doing, I recalled Mike Meyers’ advice: avoid anything related to the power supply. I put it back into the metal case without touching any internal parts—just the casing. I did some research just to be safe, knowing that capacitors can be very dangerous if touched. I didn’t feel any shocks, but I was worried about possible electrical currents passing through my body without me noticing. I’m unsure if I should handle it at all, especially since I have no prior knowledge of PSU safety. I’m just trying to stay cautious and figure out the best way to dispose of it safely. Thank you for your help!
I wouldn't handle anything for your safety, even a small unit can deliver a strong shock if not worse. I've been zapped on a flat screen TV PSU that was unplugged for weeks, thinking it was fine, and the PSU ended up dead. That's why I took it apart to fix it.
But if you touch it, shouldn't there be some risk?
Just be extra careful with these things.
Yikes! I'm learning that capacitors are not something to mess with lol. And the monitor is already a lost cause due to the pixels, I was more so concerned about my own health, and if there should be any concerns after touching a PSU. No plans to touch the thing again. Thank you for your input!
