I've been trying everywhere but only found tips about hiding the lower menu. My external OLED screen is mostly black, so it’s displaying the upper toolbar instead of hiding it. Any ideas on how to make that disappear?

It's due to the menu bar feature on Mac. Also, check out Apple's guide for hiding or showing it automatically.

Turning off "displays have separate Spaces" in System Settings means you'll see only the dock and menu bar on your main screen.

It functioned, that's all! Talk about tricky phrasing—really needs a fresh start.
